Akure South APC Chairman Under Fire Over Alleged Unauthorized Endorsement

Fresh controversy has erupted within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Akure South after the party’s Local Government Chairman, Hon. Fesobi Akinmolayan, led some ward chairmen on a visit to House of Representatives aspirant Hon. Olabanji Atanmuyide.

The outing, interpreted in political circles as an unofficial endorsement, has drawn sharp criticism from stakeholders who insist that the move undermines the neutrality expected of party leadership. Concerned members argue that such actions risk creating division at a time the APC requires cohesion ahead of crucial contests.

In a statement issued by Oba Ademola of the Ondo Solidarity Forum, the chairman was accused of favoritism and warned that his conduct could weaken internal democracy if unchecked. The group further urged the State Working Committee and party elders to intervene to safeguard unity within the APC.

The statement reads:

REBUTTAL: PARTY CHAIRMAN’S BIASED ENDORSEMENT. A THREAT TO APC UNITY IN AKURE SOUTH

The recent political outing led by the APC Local Government Chairman, Hon. Fesobi Akinmolayan, in company of some ward chairmen, to the residence of a House of Representatives aspirant, Hon. Olabanji Atanmuyide, has stirred deep concern and disappointment within party ranks across Akure South.

This visit, widely perceived as an unofficial endorsement, is a clear violation of the principle of internal democracy which the All Progressives Congress (APC) holds dear. 

The party chairman, by virtue of his office, is expected to remain neutral, fatherly, and supportive to all aspirants regardless of personal affiliations. Instead, what we witnessed was a blatant show of bias and favoritism, an act that has embarrassed the party and sowed seeds of disunity.

It is not the first time Hon. Fesobi Akinmolayan would be involved in such partisan conduct. His repeated acts of political favoritism have made him notorious for undermining the unity of our party, especially during sensitive political seasons.   This reckless behavior must not be allowed to continue.If Hon. Akinmolayan lacks the moral strength and leadership discipline to treat all aspirants equally, then it is high time he steps down from his position as chairman. 

The APC must not be allowed to descend into a party of factions controlled by individual interests at the expense of collective progress.

Furthermore, to restore confidence and peace among aspirants and stakeholders, Hon. Fesobi Akinmolayan must tender a public apology to all other aspirants whose political chances he has attempted to diminish through this ill advised move. Only then can healing begin and faith in party structure be restored.

We call on the State Working Committee, party elders, and the leadership of the APC in Ondo State to call Hon. Akinmolayan to order and reaffirm the party’s commitment to free, fair, and unbiased processes.

The APC must stand above favoritism. Let all aspirants contest on a level playing field. Unity is non negotiable.
