Muslim Faithful in Àkókó North Federal Constituency Demand Fairness in Next APC Primary Election

Muslim stakeholders in Àkókó North Federal Constituency in Ondo state have called for equity and inclusiveness ahead of the forthcoming primary election of the All Progressives Congress (APC), urging party leaders to uphold principles of justice and balanced representation.

According to a statement issued by the APC Patriot League, the group raised concerns over what it described as a persistent pattern of political marginalization of the Muslim community within the constituency’s power-sharing structure since 1999. While acknowledging existing rotational arrangements between Akoko North East Local Government Area and Akoko North West Local Government Area, which make up the constituency, the statement argued that such mechanisms have not translated into genuine fairness, as a significant religious bloc continues to be excluded from representation.

The group further emphasised the need to end the practice of candidate imposition by a few influential actors, calling instead for a transparent and participatory primary process that reflects the will of party members and constituents. It stressed that competence is not defined by religious affiliation and urged party stakeholders to give due consideration to credible Muslim aspirants.

The APC Patriot League cautioned that continued disregard for this concern could carry political implications, noting an increasing level of awareness and engagement among the electorate.

The statement reads:

Enough of the hypocrisy. Enough of the manipulation. Enough of sidelining a critical part of Akoko North Federal Constituency.

Since 1999, we have preached rotation and fairness between Local Governments but what is fairness when a whole religious bloc is consistently pushed aside? What kind of balance ignores the Muslim community except when it is politically convenient?

Aside from Hon. Gani Dauda, the record is clear: systematic exclusion masked as political arrangement.

Let no one twist this message this is not about division; this is about justice long denied.

We will not accept a system where a few power brokers sit behind closed doors, impose candidates, and expect the people to fall in line. That era is over. The people are watching. The people are ready.

The next election must not be business as usual. It must be a statement.

A statement that Akoko North will no longer tolerate imbalance. A statement that every community, including the Muslim faithful, deserves fair representation. A statement that competence exists across all religious lines—and will no longer be ignored.

We demand not beg that political actors do the right thing: field a competent, credible Muslim candidate for the House of Representatives.

Ignore this call at your own political peril. The days of silent acceptance are gone.

Akoko North will rise. Justice will speak. And this time, it will not be ignored."
