Youth leaders, students, community stakeholders, and friends gathered in honour of Late Ambassador Adojutelegan Abiola Mayowa (popularly known as DarkMayor), a respected student unionist, youth mobilizer, and community engagement advocate, at a one-year memorial held to celebrate his life and enduring legacy.
The memorial event, themed “Legacy of Service: Celebrating a Life of Leadership and Impact,” brought together young leaders and community actors committed to sustaining the ideals of service, leadership, and social responsibility that defined the deceased’s life.
Speaking at the event, the Chairman of the Memorial Planning Committee, Lanre Famous, described the late activist as a symbol of courage, dedication, and selfless leadership whose impact continues to inspire a new generation of youths.
According to him, the memorial was designed not only to remember a fallen comrade but to transform remembrance into continued service to humanity and community development.
Delivering the memorial lecture, Prince Charlz Olusa, Deputy Registrar, Students’ Affairs of Adekunle Ajasin University, encouraged young people to emulate the life and values of the deceased, emphasizing that true leadership is measured through service, sacrifice, and positive societal impact.
The event also featured a health talk delivered by Prince Oyekan, Vice Chairman of MLS in Nigeria, who urged participants to take their health seriously, stressing that health remains wealth and serves as a vital foundation for productivity, leadership, and national development.
Representing the family, Adojutelegan Adesoji Aridunnu expressed deep appreciation to friends, comrades, and organizers for honouring the memory of their loved one and sustaining his legacy through purposeful engagement.
Also present at the memorial was the daughter of the deceased, Abiola Irenimofe Vandora, whose attendance added emotional significance to the gathering. In honour of her father’s legacy, she donated educational books to St Paul Anglican Church, further reflecting the family’s commitment to education and community service.
Participants described the memorial as a powerful reminder that impactful lives continue to inspire even after death. Organizers reaffirmed their commitment to sustaining annual initiatives promoting youth leadership and community service in honour of the late icon.
The event concluded with renewed commitments from attendees to uphold the values of unity, leadership, and humanitarian service championed by Late Ambassador Adojutelegan Abiola Mayowa.
