FG Reviews Nigerian Passport Fees Amid Economic Challenges

The Federal Government of Nigeria has announced a significant increase in passport fees, set to take effect from September 1st, 2024.

The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has explained that the hike is aimed at maintaining the quality and integrity of the country's passport system, even as the nation grapples with various economic challenges.

According to the revised fee structure, the 32-page passport booklet, valid for five years, will now cost ₦50,000, up from ₦35,000. The 64-page booklet, with a ten-year validity, will rise to ₦100,000 from the previous ₦70,000. However, the government has confirmed that passport fees for Nigerians living abroad will remain unchanged.

Acknowledging the possible financial strain on citizens, the NIS highlighted the necessity of the fee increase. "This adjustment is necessary to ensure that the Nigerian passport remains of high standard and continues to meet international benchmarks," stated DCI KT Udo, the Service Public Relations Officer.

Despite the new pricing, the NIS reassured Nigerians of its unwavering commitment to transparency and quality service delivery, stressing that the changes are part of a broader effort to uphold the integrity of the country's passport system.
