NSCDC Makes Shocking Discovery In Ondo

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Ondo State Command, has uncovered an illegal crude oil reservoir in the state, further intensifying its efforts to curb oil theft and economic sabotage. This significant discovery, which exposes the relentless activities of oil thieves in the Niger Delta region, was made public in a statement issued by the command’s spokesperson, DSC Daniel Aidamenbor, and made available to newsmen on Tuesday in Akure.

According to Aidamenbor, the operation that led to the discovery was a collaborative effort involving the NSCDC, the Nigerian Army, and TANTITA Security Service, a private firm specializing in oil-related security. The illegal reservoir was carefully concealed within a forest in Obe-Akingboye, Ilaje Local Government Area of the state, highlighting the sophisticated measures employed by those engaging in illicit oil activities. Despite the breakthrough, no arrests were made, as the suspects had already fled the scene before security operatives arrived. The timing of the discovery, which occurred on Sunday at about 14:12, suggests a well-coordinated operation aimed at evading security detection.

The Ondo State Commandant of the NSCDC, Mr. Oluyemi Ibiloye, condemned the illegal act and issued a stern warning to individuals involved in petroleum-related crimes. He emphasized that such economic sabotage not only endangers the nation’s oil industry but also threatens environmental stability and community livelihoods. Reaffirming the NSCDC’s commitment to safeguarding national assets, he cautioned perpetrators to desist from their illicit dealings or risk facing the full weight of the law. His statement reiterated the command’s unwavering resolve to strengthen surveillance, enforce regulations, and collaborate with relevant security agencies to dismantle networks of oil thieves operating in the state.

The NSCDC further confirmed that investigations are ongoing to track down those behind the illegal operation and prevent further acts of sabotage. Intelligence efforts have been heightened to identify other clandestine crude oil activities within the region, as authorities remain steadfast in their mission to secure the country’s critical resources.
