28 Passengers Burnt to Death in Ondo Auto Crash

A tragic road accident in Odigbo Local Government Area of Ondo State has claimed the lives of 28 passengers, who were burnt to death after a fatal collision.

The incident took place on Saturday at the Onipetesi area along the Ore-Lagos Expressway when two commercial buses collided head-on and erupted in flames.

Out of the 32 passengers involved, 28 were charred beyond recognition, while two survivors who sustained severe injuries succumbed before reaching the hospital. Two others are currently receiving medical attention.

Eyewitnesses attributed the accident to excessive speeding by the drivers.

Confirming the incident, the Ondo State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Samuel Ibitoye, stated that preliminary investigations indicated that one of the vehicles was driving against traffic.

Ibitoye urged motorists to adhere to safe driving practices, maintain their vehicles properly, and avoid reckless behavior. He also encouraged passengers to speak out when they notice unsafe driving, stressing that road safety requires collective responsibility.
