CDCFIB Announces Date for Completion of Federal Fire Service Recruitment

The Civil Defense, Correctional, Fire, and Immigration Services Board (CDCFIB) has confirmed that the ongoing Federal Fire Service (FFS) recruitment process will be completed by September 2024. This decision was reached during the Board's 15th meeting of the year, held on Thursday, September 12, and Friday, September 13, 2024.

The recruitment exercise, which commenced in late 2023, was initially scheduled to be completed on June 15, 2024. However, delays and a lack of communication from the concerned authorities have caused anxiety and frustration among job seekers, many of whom have been raising questions.

In an effort to address these concerns, the Board's Secretary, Ja’afaru Ahmed, issued a statement on his X (formerly Twitter) account, saying, “The Board wishes to apologize for its inability to complete the process by June 15, 2024, as initially planned.

“This delay was caused by a nationwide manpower audit exercise conducted within the Nigerian Correctional Service, Nigeria Immigration Service, Federal Fire Service, and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, which has only recently been completed."

Ahmed further reassured the public, stating, "The Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board will commence the next stage of the recruitment process in August, and the entire exercise will be concluded by the end of September 2024."

At the Board meeting, chaired by the Minister of Interior, Hon. Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, the recruitment timeline was reaffirmed, with assurances that the process would be completed by September's end.

In addition, the Board also approved the promotion of over 20,000 officers in 2024, following the promotion of more than 30,000 officers in 2023. This marks the second consecutive year the Board has focused on career progression as part of its broader strategy to motivate personnel and enhance efficiency within the paramilitary services.
